The education industrial complex has turned a generation into financial martyrs
They should have been protectors, but laid down their shields in the face of economic marauders
Then they jacked up tuition, and increased admissions, and handed out negligent financial assistance

We should have kept our distance

A life sentence in financial prison
With no hope for an early release

I keep my cash in a canister
‘Cause I’ve got places to be

Her eyes remind me of a panic attack
Or perhaps she is starting to see

That the education finance system
Is an Anti-Intellectual scheme

In loco parentis, they should act as parents, and place our interests ahead of other matters
But they exploit student athletes and cover up assault and let us mortgage our future before we can vote

Then they will leave us in financial ruin
Obscene rental rates and gentrification

We just wanted an education

A life sentence in financial prison
With no hope for an early release;

I keep my cash in a canister
Cause I’ve got places to be

That they’ll keep the educated suppressed
To protect the aristocracy

I took the road less traveled
To avoid my past
But someone else’s feet have beaten down the path

When the pillars of success turn into monuments of stress
Its hard to use what we have learned to benefit the rest

They’ll bury us in debt to stop political dissent
If we have to work ourselves to death, we can’t voice our contempt

As soon as we’re accepted, we are cattle led to slaughter
We offered up our bank accounts to feed the knowledge-monger

With no one qualified to represent your sons and daughters,
Once again the lenders preyed and left us economic horror

But in retrospect, we’re all incorrect, its all just a waste of time
I can’t take it back, but I wish I could give my younger self advice.
